The Story Behind "THE HAPPENINGS"
THE HAPPENING was an immersive, collaborative art exhibition that came together in a whirlwind of creativity and last-minute chaos. Staged in the eerie, abandoned lobby of an old Brisbane hotel, we brought together more than ten local artists to create a shared, experimental space of activation. Each artist added their own flair, and watching their ideas come alive was electrifying.
What made this project special was the unpredictability—the last-minute flurry of building installations, rigging lights, and setting up each corner of the space with only moments to spare. But that’s part of the magic of taking creative risks—leaning into the uncertainty and seeing where it leads. And we couldn’t have done it without our incredible collaborators who shared the vision for creating something truly bold and out of the box.
Our second and third iterations were even more exciting, as we partnered with Brisbane City Council and the Visible Ink Youth Hub. We transformed the Fortitude Valley precinct into a hub of creativity and connection, with a special focus on youth engagement. These events were all about fostering community, encouraging collaboration, and providing a platform for young creatives to not just showcase their work but also connect with like-minded individuals.
What I took away from this experience? Partnering with the right people—organisations like Visible Ink and the City Council—can truly amplify the impact of a creative project. When you take the leap to build something new, finding partners who believe in the vision makes all the difference.
